Painting Snowflakes!

On Monday Belle and I painted some snowflake silhouettes. I took some painters tape, cut it and made snowflake shapes on white construction paper.

Belle picked out pink and blue. We don’t have very many paint color options currently. We are working on it as we go. I squirted a little of each on the paper and let her go to town. All I told her she had to do was cover the snowflakes. Belle loves painting so this was a great project to do with her.

After the paint dried we pulled off the tape to reveal our snowflakes.

I am loving doing different projects and crafts with Belle. She gets so proud of her work and can’t wait to show daddy what she has done.

We are currently working on our last snowman craft. It’s taking us a few days to do but she was so excited to show daddy what she had done after each step. Hopefully tonight we will finish it.

In Disney Blog news, I actually have a post up today. Check it out. Raising A Disney Princess.

Our Melting Snowman

I mentioned yesterday that this week is the last week of Belle’s snow and ice unit at school. Given that we live in New York we should have had a ton of fun activities to do in the snow. Well, we have yet to get any snow. We live in the city that is pretty much only known for snow, which we are not even close to the snowiest city in the country let alone the state. It’s all pretty odd. They keep calling for snow and we get some here and there but nothing to cover our grass yet and it’s gone with in a day.

I wanted to do some snow painting with Belle and blow frozen bubbles with her but there is no snow and it has not been cold enough for frozen bubbles. This weekend they are calling for snow again and it will be back down in the 20’s so maybe we can get out and do some activities. We haven’t even made a snow man yet.

Instead we have been making snowmen inside. Over the weekend we made this cute little guy. He is our melting snowman. Which is basically what it looks like around here. I mean really it was in the 50’s on Friday!

I don’t have pictures of the making process, Belle still needs some help with things. I took wax paper and laid it on her table. Before hand I had all the pieces cut out. Black construction paper eyes and mouth. Orange construction paper nose. Where I found the craft suggested using twigs for the arms, but I was too lazy to go find some in the backyard the night before so I quickly cut some out of brown construction paper.

When we were ready Belle and I squeezed a lot of glue onto the wax paper. We probably could have done a lot more too but the bottle was almost empty and it was taking forever. Belle then placed the eyes, nose, mouth and arms in the glue to resemble a snowman’s face. I precut yarn and tied it in a loop and stuck it in the glue at the top. It took about two days for him to dry. At the end of the first full day I peeled him off and flipped him over. By morning he was dry and ready to be hung up. Belle wanted him in our window.

Enough With the Snow

Yesterday I posted about all the snow we have been getting hit with. The snow started Thursday morning and is still snowing. Yes, STILL SNOWING! It is insane. Our ride home was crazy. My bosses finally did let us out early and by 4 we were on the rode. It took us nearly an hour to get just to The Bug. Which is normally a 20 minute drive.

Once we had Belle we headed to Target. We needed a new shovel. Our old one would not have made it in the pile of snow that was waiting for us at home. On our way we followed this for a while.

This was taken with my cell phone so not the best picture.

Apparently there were a bunch out helping plow the side streets, including our own. We made it to Target got our shovel and picked up some food for tonight and just in case of tomorrow (tomorrow is our grocery night, go figure).  Then we got home. We didn't even try to get into our driveway. I wish I could have gotten a good before picture from the street but I was to concerned about getting Belle in the house and how I was going to climb over the mountain at the end of our driveway while holding her.

The Hubs ate really quick and then headed outside to shovel. Again, how do we not have a snow blower yet?!?!?!? Belle was all hyped up from sleeping on the long car ride home. So I got her bundled in her snow suit and we headed outside. With the camera of course.

Ok prepare yourself for a ton of pictures and a ton of snow.

This one is hard to make out but way in the back is our other car. Buried.
I don't think we are getting it out any time soon.

Our front lawn.

I wasn't lying when I said we got hit. Our neighbor from two doors down came over and helped The Hubs with the driveway with his new snow blower. I plan on making him some cookies this weekend to thank him. He did two of our other neighbors before coming over to help The Hubs. The town that we live in is under a State of Emergency and a travel ban. Which means no driving. School has already been cancelled for tomorrow as well. I am so so thankful that we only have a half day tomorrow.

We were a little worried that The Bug may close tomorrow. But since we have a half day The Hubs wantes to just bring Belle to work with him tomorrow. We shall see what happens.

Any one want some snow???? We have more then enough to share. Oh, and we have not done our Christmas lights yet. I am hoping we can mange to get the lights on the house at least this weekend and skip the lawn stuff this year.

Let it Snow, Let it Snow, Let it Snow....

If you have seen my tweets from last night and this morning you know that is have been snowing pretty hard here. The Hubs had to work last night and didn't get home until late. He still had to shovel. Why we don't have a snow blower I have no idea. The poor Hubs didn't get to bed until one this morning and he had only gotten a quarter of our drive way done. Enough to get our SUV in.

Then he got up this morning and went back out there to shovel the Equinox back out cause it never stopped snowing. This is what one of the street corners looked like this morning.

Our drive way is still full of snow from last night and as I am sitting here at work (yup we both had to get ourselves into work today) it is storming at our house, again. We had over 2 feet of snow this morning. I don't want to know what it is going to look like when we get home.

I am so thankful that The Bug remained open today, because I am not sure what we would have done. Yuck. Snow. I usually like it this time a year because of Christmas, but not when it makes it's entrance like this. December sure knew how to arrive here.

Oh, and our town just announced a travel ban. Great. Welcome snow, now leave.

Garbage Cans, Christmas Lights, and Snowmen...

We had our first official snow on Friday. Not only was it the first snow of the season but it stuck, and accumilated. It is now all white outside. I thought about taking Belle out to play on Saturday but we just didn't get around to it.
We didn't do anything this weekend but Belle kept me busy. Friday night she was playing quietly. Which surprisingly doesn't always mean shes getting into trouble. She was playing with her little Fisher Price Kitchen when she started whinning. I thought she might have just been stuck behind it so I started to pull it out as she walked behind it. Then I turned it and saw this.

I tried to help her, but it was really stuck and I started laughing. How did she do that?? How did she know to open the little garbage can and stick her foot in it. Ok, and I am laughing as I am typing this and looking at the picture. I was laughing so then she started laughing, then would remember her foot was in there and start whinning again. I was able to snap this picture, because it was funny and I had to. When just like nothing she slid her foot right out.

Saturday I spent the morning cleaning the house so I could pull up the Christmas decorations. This was no easy task with a one year old. But she enjoyed inspecting all the Christmas decorations when I pulled them up. She even helped...a little. I am hoping next year she will start to "get" Christmas. While cleaning we took down the swing finally. Belle hasn't used it in months but it was still sad to put away yet another baby item. This is what it looks like now. More space for all her toys!

I managed to get the inside of the house decorated. All we have left to do is the outside. Which won't get done until we are on vacation now. Vacation. I can not wait. The Hubs and I have a half day on Friday and then we are on vacation for a week. I can not wait. I have not had a week off since I came back to work. Granit I had seven months off due to bed rest but it's been over a year now and I need a break.

And if she didn't learn her lesson Friday night after getting her foot stuck in a toy garbage can maybe she did after getting herself stuck in her jumperoo. Yes this is still up too.

Anyways, Belle had fun going through the decorations. She even wore her Santa hat, for a minute.

And the house looks great. And I lied I do have one more thing to do. I have not put for the garland around the arches in our living room yet. We are out of command stickies. So I will have to pick some up. But this is what some of it looks like.

Our stockings.

My make shift mantel.

And Sunday? How did we end the weekend? Like this...

We took Belle out to play in the snow for this first time. She was a teeny newborn last winter so this is her first actual expierience. She really wasn't sure what to do in the snow and it didn't really help that she can not move in the snow suit. It's a tad bit big but will fit for the entire winter. We made our first snow man too. I couldn't find anything to make the face with. It snowed on Friday and we didn't get out to play in it until Sunday so by then most of the snow had melted.

Belle being silly.

Then the rest of the afternoon was just us playing and taking naps. We had a great end to the weekend. I can not wait for a short work week and to spend the next two weekends with a full week inbetween just the three of us!
