Mother's Day Vase Craft

I thought I would post the craft that Belle and I did together for Grandma's Mother's Day gift. It came out really cute, and honestly wasn't all that time consuming.

Supplies:
Different colored tissue paper (I used 3 colors)
Glue
Pipe Cleaners
Pom Poms
Die Cut Flowers (I did something different)
Plastic Bottle (I used a Tropicana orange juice bottle)

In advance I had ripped the tissue paper into mismatched squares. I ripped up one sheet of each color which was way more then I needed.

For the flowers I took some left over scrapbook paper, the heavy stock kind, and let Belle finger paint it. After it was dry I cut out the flowers. I googled flower patterns and used two different sizes.

After she was done painting we started decorating the bottle with the tissue paper. I took a paint brush and painted the glue onto the bottle. We did one side at a time. Once the glue was on the bottle Belle decorated it with the tissue paper. It was a big bottle and I should have planned better. She did about a side and a half before she had enough. If I had planned better and we had more time I would have stopped and tried again later. But I had to finish the rest of the bottle. Once the bottle was dry I touched up any tissue paper that wasn't completely glued down by just painting some glue over it.

I don't have pictures of her gluing the tissue paper since it was just me with her at the time and I was holding the bottle for her.

I couldn't get the pipe cleaners to stick to the back of the flowers with glue so I just taped them. I glued the pom poms onto the center of the flower and then arranged the flowers in the vase.

To finish it off I printed out a poem I found on the internet and glued it to the vase.

All in all it was really easy and my mom loved it.

Beautiful Day

Mother's Day was wonderful. We finally had beautiful weather here. Spring and summer are trying their best, but winter just won't let go this year. We spent the afternoon outside enjoying the weather and snacking on good food.

The kids played in the driveway soaking in the sun and breathing in the fresh air. It was a peaceful enjoyable day. I couldn't have asked for more.

Belle made me a beautiful bouquet of hand print flowers at school. And The Hubs and Belle gave me a bottle of my favorite wine and tickets for my mom and I to go see Wicked this Thursday.

I hope everyone had a fabulous weekend.

Happy Mother's Day!

Happy Mother's Day to all of my friends and family. Have a wonderful weekend and enjoy!

Before I was Mom I cleaned my house each day.
I never tripped over toys or forgot words to lullabies.

Before I was a Mom I didn't worry whether
or not my plants were poisonous.
I never thought about immunizations.

Before I was a Mom I had never been puked on, pooped on,
spit on, peed on, or pinched by tiny fingers.
Before I was a Mom I had complete control of my mind,
my thoughts, my body and all my feelings.
I slept all night.

Before I was a Mom I never held down a screaming child
so that doctors could do tests or give shots.
I never looked into teary eyes and cried.
I never got gloriously happy over a simple grin.
I never sat up late hours at night watching a baby sleep.

Before I was a Mom I never held a sleeping baby just
because I didn't want to put it down.
I never felt my heart break into a million pieces
when I couldn't stop the hurt.
I never knew that something so small could affect my life so much.
I never knew that I could love someone so much.
I never knew I would love being a Mom.

Before I was a Mom I didn't know the feeling
of having my heart outside my body.
I didn't know how special it could feel to feed a hungry baby.
I didn't know that bond between a Mother and her child.
I didn't know that something so small could make me feel so important.

Before I was a Mom I had never gotten up in the middle of the night
every 10 minutes to make sure all was OK.
I had never known the warmth, the joy, the love,
the heartache or the satisfaction of being a Mom.

I didn't know I was capable of feeling so much...
...before I was a Mom.

Mother's Day

So with Mother's Day this Sunday I really really wanted to write this post. With this being my first Mother's Day as a mommy it has made me appreciate my mommy that much more. My mom is my best friend. I understand now how she always put my brother and me first and the hard work it is to be a mom.

She was there through the awful and awkward Middle school days, the fights with friends, and the heart breaks with boys. Every dance competition, recital, picture day, and trip. She went on my Senior Chorale trip to Ohio after weeks of begging. She helped plan my wedding, and was there through my tough pregnancy.
She managed to be a wonderful mother, work full time, have a successful marriage and be a great friend to many. And now add a loving grandmother. With everything in the last few years she has been able to remain strong and beautiful. I look up to her in so many ways. She is my hero. I hope that I can be half the mom that she is and I pray to have the relationship that her and I have with Belle.

Not only will I celebrate my first Mother's Day but I will celebrate and honor my mom in a completely new light.

Happy Mother's Day Mom!!!

You Want Me to Clean...On My Day Off????

I am at home today with Belle. It wasn't originally planned that I was going to be off today. My dad couldn't watch her so Patrick told me to take a vacation day and stay home with her. You don't have to twist my arm. So I was lucky to be able to get the day off (apparently every one and their mom's are off this week in our department).

So my plan is to get some cleaning done around the house. I skipped washing the tables on Tuesday and immediately regretted it when I got into bed that night. Last night I did not clean the bathroom as scheduled. Instead we went to the neighbors for some Margaritas and Nachos in honor of Cinco De Mayo.

Belle and Claire finally got to play together last night. They sat on the floor together and played with blocks and books. Belle tried stealing Claire's socks, they held hands for a minute and Clair stole Belle's paci. Haha it was so cute. I did have my camera but I did not get any pictures and really bummed about it. Those pics would have been great for Belle's scrapbook.

So as I sit here playing on the computer I think of all the things that really need to be done and what I should be getting done now that Belle is napping in her crib (woohoo!!!) and what needs to be done today.

-wash tables
-sweep floor (again)
-dust desk/shelves/entertainment center in living room
-clean off dining table
-go through bags of baby food in kitchen
-laundry
-fold laundry in basket
-wash the bedding
-shower
-clean bathroom
-wash bottles
-take Belle to visit Daddy at work
-make dinner
-clean kitchen
-mail a card
-call Church and set up Bapitisim Ok I really did call, but the Parish closes at 4, I called at 4:15. Ugh, so hopefully I will have time to call tomorrow at work.

I really wish today was pay day and not tomorrow so I could get the grocery shopping done and I have to run out to babies r us as well. But unfortunately that will have to wait for tomorrow and be added with a trip to the mall for a hair cut and Mother's Day shopping.

Tomorrow will be busy...wait scratch that. This weekend will be busy. On Saturday we have a 5K for the Heritage Centers in the morning and a Communion party in the afternoon. The plan is Belle and I are going to be walking the 5K while Patrick runs it. But the weather looks horrible for Saturday raining and cold. So Belle and I may be hanging out with Grandpa instead of doing the walk. Which I will be really disappointed. I was looking forward to doing the walk.

Sunday is Mother's Day. My first Mother's Day as a mommy. We will start the day with brunch at Patrick's sister’s house and move on to dinner out with my parents and brother. Wow we are going to be one stuffed family.

Alright I am off to start my list.....
